question and answer
Bisphosphonate red herring
December 2009
Is it true that bisphosphonates won’t work well if blood vitamin D levels aren’t within normal range? RAYMOND SHANDERA, MD, Bay Roberts, NL
This is not true. There’s no correlation between bisphosphonate effectiveness and Vitamin D levels. However, we recommend optimizing 25-OH-D3 levels at 80 nmol/L or greater.
